Ben Salmon & Johnny Rutherford – New Signing for Super6 Squad

Ben Salmon and Johnny Rutherford from Dollar Academy join Stirling County’s Super6 squad for the upcoming season.

Both Ben and Johnny went to school at Dollar Academy and have trained under the direction of Eddie Pollock – 1st XV Assistant Coach at Dollar Academy. 

Ben began his rugby journey at the age of nine at Hillfoots before joining rugby at school the following year. He has been selected for U16s Caledonia squad as well as U16 Glasgow Warriors and also U16 Scotland blues squad on tour. After leaving Dollar Academy, Ben started training at County and joined the Wolves squad for that season. Most recently Ben was given the opportunity to be part of the extended Squad for Scotland 7s.

Johnny started playing rugby at Berwick Rugby Club at the age of seven before progressing onto Dun’s Rugby Club through to U18s. he then went onto play at Dollar Academy before being invited to join Stirling County. 

Eddie Pollock, Director of Rugby at Stirling County and XV Assistant Coach at Dollar Academy, commented,

“I am delighted that both Ben and Johnny have joined County. I have watched both grow as players and as individuals over the past few seasons at Dollar. As 1st XV captains they were great role models to the other players. As well as being highly skilled, they had a fantastic work ethic and a real hunger to improve. This will stand them in good stead for the challenges ahead and I wish them both well as they take the next step on their rugby journey.”

Commenting on his thoughts ahead of the upcoming season, Head Coach, Ben Cairns, said, 

“I’m excited to be involved in a high performance environment that will put my skills to the test. Having already been part of Stirling County playing for the Wolves, it was clear to me how close the Super6 team have been so I’m looking forward to being involved in the strong sense of camaraderie within the team.” 

Ben Salmon said,

Johnny Rutherford also said, 

“It is great to have been asked to join Stirling County’s Super6 team and be part of the team for the forthcoming season. This will be my first Super6 season with the club and I’m looking forward to growing my skills and working with a great group of guys.”
