CEITIDH AINSWORTH, CLUB WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Stirling County fly-half Ceitidh Ainsworth, was recognised as the Women’s Club Player of the year at the Scottish Rugby Writers awards this weekend, rounding off a remarkable first two seasons in senior rugby.

Only turning 20 at the start of the year, Ceitidh has been instrumental in County winning back-to-back Premiership titles with a young side that has mostly come through the club’s youth programme. This season Ceitidh won player of the match in the Premiership final against Watsonians, and finished top points scorer in the league.

“I am delighted  and honoured to have been voted the Scottish club player of the year by the Scottish Rugby writers.  Although I picked up the award it is all down to my great teammates who make my job easier.

Thanks also to Kenny Craig and Megan Kennedy for their great coaching and for allowing us to play to our strengths and giving us huge belief in every game. The club as a whole supports the team and the fans give us that extra push every week. This award is for everyone at County.”

Ceitidh’s composure, attacking threat and defensive solidity earned her selection for Glasgow Warriors as the starting 10 throughout their Celtic Cup campaign, with her ambition to be a professional rugby player and to play for Scotland. Ceitidh is certainly doing all she can to realise those dreams.

Well done Ceitidh, the club really couldn’t be more proud.
