RUGBY MEMORIES MARCH 2024 - Stirling County Rugby Football Club

Rugby Memories March 2024

We had a very relaxed meeting/chat in March. We remembered Willie Lambie who passed away this month and his 1st XV captaincy at the club in 1956 photo attached. We also spoke about our friend Ian Herbert who also died this week. Ian was such a calm and positive influence on and off the field and will be solely missed by all at the club.

We heard more about the visit to Murrayfield including the Bill McLaren statue that greets visiting players where Bill used to do this in person on match days. The changing rooms have lots of personalised memories of many players plus a numerical list of all men and women who have played for Scotland. There is also a Claymore sword that was gifted by former South African coach Vern Cotter.

We discussed the demise of super six and the impact this has had on our club to the present but also regarding future plans.

Our Our next meeting is on Monday 8th April at 2.00pm. We have two speakers lined up including one on the history of Wallace High School rugby. So please come along and be suitably entertained, watered and fed with tea, coffee and cake. No charge
