Former Stirling County Star, Ali McGrandles, Named Chieftain of this Year’s Stirling Highland Games

Congratulations to Ali McGrandles, former Scotland rugby player, who has been named Chieftain of this year’s Stirling Highland Games.

Ali has been an impressive representative for women’s rugby in Scotland, beginning her career at Stirling County aged just eight, before going on to play rugby at university, where she was selected for Scotland’s first ever women’s international match against Ireland in 1993.

She then went on to achieve 50 international caps and represented Scotland in three Rugby World Cups. Ali enjoyed a long career in international women’s rugby before retiring in 2002 and is still involved in the sport, coaching a rugby team at the school where she works as an assistant headteacher.

Ali is a great example of the positive impact women’s rugby can have. We are proud to have had her playing with the club in her early rugby career and wish her all the best in her new venture.
