Grant Gilchrist – Set for his 50th Cap this Week!

Grant Gilchrist, a former Stirling County rugby player, has been selected to play his 50th cap for Scotland this weekend.

Yesterday, Gregor Townsend named his squad for this weekend’s Wales v Scotland 6 Nations game. Grant will lead the team out as Vice Captain in recognition of his achievement on reaching his 50th cap.

Grant joined County from Alloa in his teens and developed and contributed greatly as he progressed through the club over the years. Continuing his rugby journey and going onto become a pro, shows great progression and inspiration for our younger players just starting out at Stirling County.

Asked about his time at County, Grant Gilchrist said,

“I absolutely loved my time at County – The Club played a huge part in my rugby journey and development into a professional player. It’s a great club with great people where I made lifelong friends and memories.”

Director of Rugby at Stirling County, Eddie Pollock,

“We’re all looking forward to seeing Grant take the field for his 50th cap this Saturday in Cardiff. Everyone at the club is very proud of Grant. He joined us from his boyhood club, Alloa, as a youth rugby player and was part of a very successful U18 national title team before playing an integral part in the 1st XV winning promotion back to the premiership.

His strong club form and his outstanding performances for Scotland U20, earned him a contract with Edinburgh, where he has gone from strength to strength developing into the outstanding player and leader he is today.

Alongside his impressive playing career, Grant is an outstanding example to every young player showing a tremendous work ethic and never forgetting where he has come from. His work behind the scenes at County, where he has been both a great help to the coaching staff and fundraising activities over the years, has been much appreciated. Go well, Gilko!”

This weekend Count is anticipating many supporters at the club as we are showing all 6 Nation games live throughout the weekend with drinks and food available – find out more over here.

Come on down and show your support for Grant!
