MEMORIES GROUP – A TRIP TO MURRAYFIELD, FEBRUARY 2024

We had an exciting visit to Murrayfield in February. This visit followed up on our virtual tour late last year.

Dan showed us around the stadium with many backroom tales. We glorified in this view from a box though without the hospitality drinks that would normally be available for £6,000 for a tier two match but £20,000 for a six nations match.

Iain can tell us some details about the Calcutta Cup, which at that time we did not know that Scotland would retain it for four years in a row for the first time since 18 canteen.

Bob was thinking of warming his hands on the Royal Box seats because again there were no warming toddies or refreshments on offer.

Eric Liddell wore the number 11 shirt 70 years before Kenny Logan wore it. There is so much rugby history it is mind-boggling. The week we visited, there had been presntations of caps for those who had missed out for various reasons, this has a knock-on effect on the fact that player numbers are allocated in numeric order, but this has been accommodated to ensure those who should have got a cap now have.

When we meet on Monday 11th March at 1.00pm we will have a chat about old photographs, videos and maybe even Super Six which seems to be another memory. Those who were at the club dinner can tell us about that, those who were not can tell us what they were doing that night!
