Stirling County’s Minis and Micros rugby sections provide the perfect introduction to rugby for our youngest players, welcoming both boys and girls from Primary 1 through Primary 7. Our programme is built around fun, friendship, and fundamental skill development, ensuring every child enjoys their first steps into the world of rugby.
Micro Rugby (Primary 1-3)
Our Micro rugby sessions focus on play-based learning, where children develop basic movement skills, hand-eye coordination, and teamwork through engaging games and activities. Following the Scottish Rugby Union’s Blueprint for youth development, we emphasize enjoyment and participation over competition, helping children build confidence and a love for being active.
Sessions are designed to be inclusive and non-contact, with plenty of opportunities for every child to get involved. Our experienced coaches create a safe, supportive environment where children can learn at their own pace while making new friends and having fun. Micro Rugby trains on Saturday at 9.30 am to 10.30 am.
Minis Rugby (Primary 4-7)
As players progress to Minis rugby, they begin to develop more structured rugby skills while maintaining the focus on enjoyment and personal development. Children learn passing, catching, running with the ball, and basic game understanding through modified games that suit their age and ability.
We follow the SCOTS values – Selfless, Creative, Optimistic, Tenacious, and Self-Organised – helping young players develop important life skills alongside their rugby abilities. Training sessions are carefully planned to be age-appropriate, with equal opportunities for boys and girls to participate and progress.
Both our Micro and Minis sections benefit from qualified coaches who understand child development and create positive experiences that encourage children to continue their rugby journey. From learning the basics through play at Primary 1, to developing foundational rugby skills by Primary 7, Stirling County provides a welcoming environment where every child can thrive. Mini rugby training starts at 9.30 am every Saturday during the rugby season.
Join us at Bridgehaugh and let your child experience the joy of rugby the Stirling County way – where fun, friendship, and development go hand in hand.
