Stirling County Collaborate with Local Dunblane High School

Stirling County are delighted to have recently been supporting with rugby sessions at Dunblane High school! It is great to be involved in rugby in the local community and support in whatever ways we can!

Mr Colin Turnbull, Principal Teacher of PE at Dunblane High School commented,

“It has been a busy year at Dunblane High School for rugby. We have had training on every Tuesday after school and launched our Strength & Conditioning on a Friday morning which has had consistently good numbers of boys and girls all year. In school we have also got our Interhouse rugby back up and running with the Christmas touch rugby tournament and staff vs pupils touch rugby too. We also took part in Scottish Rugby Schools week in September and March with every PE class taking part in rugby activities during core PE. We also took part in the Doddie Gump running and walking challenge with pupil, staff and parental involvement.

We have been really lucky to have some professional rugby players supporting rugby at Dunblane High School with George Horne donating prizes/kit for our players as well as Cammy Hutchison leading a session and presenting Player of the Year awards (players player, coaches’ player and most improved) to our S1 squad. The support we have received from Stirling County has been excellent, Stewart Milne and Adam Crozier have been involved lots during the season and it has been much appreciated to have their support at training and with refereeing games!

Extra-curricular rugby wise we have had teams out at S1, S2, under 15, under 16 and under 17. S1s have played friendlies with over 30 players representing the school, some notable fixtures for the S1 squad have been the summer best of three series with QV, hosting a 7s with Alloa/Lornshill, Falkirk & QV as well as the S1 & S2 – Boys and Girls Festival at Stirling County. Other fixtures and competitions we enjoyed were the Under 16 squad being named Central School Cup winners, Under-17 playing a senior fixture against Wallace and Under 15 competing at the Balfron 7s.”

Stewart Milne, Stirling County’s Academy Manager added,

“Rugby at Dunblane High school has gone from strength to strength over the past few years and watching the way they have bounced back since the pandemic, enthusing their pupils with a genuine enjoyment of the game has been fantastic to see. Mr Turnbull has done a fantastic job with rugby at the school, nurturing it from a seed of interest to a thriving programme and the enjoyment that all involved from pupils to staff and supporters gives genuine meaning to the idea of rugby values.”

Eddie Pollock, Director at Stirling County said,

“We are delighted to see local schools rugby programmes flourishing so well. Colin is doing a fantastic job and we look forward to supporting Dunblane High School in any way we can to help them to thrive in the coming season.”
