Women’s 1XV vs Biggar – Match Report

Date: 20.09.25
Venue: Stirling County RFC
Final Score: Stirling 84 – Biggar 0

Stirling produced a commanding performance on Saturday, securing a comprehensive 84–0 victory over Biggar at Bridgehaugh. The hosts asserted control early, with Claudia McLaren finishing a well-constructed passage of play to open the scoring inside the first ten minutes.

Despite several physical exchanges and an early injury break, Stirling remained composed and clinical. Tries followed from Sarah Murdoch, Rebekah Douglas, and Scarlett Haddow, as the backline and pack combined effectively to maintain momentum. By half-time, Stirling had established a dominant 43–0 lead.

Captain Jodie Murdoch highlighted the team’s progress, noting the depth and improvement in attack:

“We’ve built well over the past few games… there’s real strength in the squad, and our attack has come on massively.”

The second half saw Stirling tighten their execution and raise their tempo. Ceitidh Ainsworth added to the scoreboard early, making an impact both in open play and with accurate kicking. Further tries from Brogan Henderson, Paige Aitken Robinson, and Kiera Macdonald—who claimed a well-deserved brace—highlighted the squad’s attacking variety.

Holland Bogan was named both Forward of the Match and Player of the Match for her outstanding work rate around the park, dominating collisions and leading from the front. Rebekah Douglas earned Back of the Match honours, adding to her try with composed play and sharp attacking lines.

Standout efforts also came from No. 8 Sam Taganekurukuru with strong carries, and Scarlett Haddow, who continued to impress with her footwork.

Biggar remained resilient, applying pressure and showing greater physicality in the second half, but Stirling’s defensive organisation held firm. Head coach Mark Ainsworth praised the team’s defensive solidity, especially the clean sheet:

“The clean sheet says a lot about our defence. We were a bit loose in the first half with ball retention, but the second half was much tighter. That’s something we’ll focus on improving in the coming weeks.”

For the fourth consecutive game, Stirling kept their opponents scoreless—a testament to their growing confidence and discipline.
