Memories Meeting Minutes – 7th November

Kenny Logan won 70 caps for Scotland.  But what position did he play when he won his first cap at the age of 20? The answer of course is full-back, stepping into the side on a tour of Australia when Gavin Hastings was injured.  He was cheered on in his first international game by two Stirling County stalwarts – his cousin Ally Logan and John Henderson who had travelled out to Australia unbeknown to Kenny to share this moment with him.

Ally’s talk to the County Memories Group on 7th November described not only this but also the hilarious adventures he and John had during their time in Oz.  These included bungee jumping in kilts, auctioning the Sydney Opera House and blagging their way into various dinners and official functions.  Fortunately, they recorded much of their trip on video so we were able to enjoy their Ant and Dec-like double act for ourselves (actually much funnier than Ant and Dec!). As well as the video, Ally brought along to the meeting an abundance of amazing anecdotes, photographs as well as a copy of Australia’s version of OK magazine which featured a photo of the dapper duo in full highland dress on the same page as various other well-known celebrities.

Many thanks to our organiser Derek, to Sandra and Gerry for the catering, and of course to Ally for an excellent talk delivered in his own inimitable style.

We have another excellent speaker for the next meeting at 12.30 on Monday 5th December, don’t forget now – it is the MEMORIES meeting.
