Meet Stirling Wolves' Staff


Ben Cairns

Head Coach


Ben is a former professional rugby player who made 116 appearances for Edinburgh Rugby and earned 7 caps for Scotland over a 10 year playing career. Ben was forced to retire early from playing due to consecutive knee injuries but had already began his coaching journey, assisting at his senior club Currie RFC whilst still playing. After retiring in 2014 Ben was soon named Head Coach of Currie and spent 5 years in this role, finishing in the top 4 and reaching the playoffs in every year as well as playing a key role in their rebranding to Currie Chieftains. Alongside this role Ben has been involved with various regional and National age grade sides including Assistant Coach for Scotland U18 from 2015 to 2017 and Head Coach of Scotland U19 from 2017 to 2019. Ben is a UKCC level 4 qualified coach graduating in 2018 with the class medal and joined Stirling County as Super6 Head Coach at the outset of Super6 in 2019.


Eddie Pollock

Assistant Coach


Eddie played over 350 matches for County over 13 seasons, captaining the side for two years and playing an integral part in 5 promotion campaigns during that time.

Retiring from playing in 2001 he coached the 2nd XV for two seasons before taking on the 1st XV Forwards coach role in 2002-3 when Richie Dixon left to coach Scotland. He spent 6 successful years as Head coach at Grangemouth RFC from 2003-2009 before returning to the club for a four year spell where as Director of Rugby he led County back in to the premiership as Division 2 champions. In 2003 he moved overseas to coach OMBAC (San Diego) in the USA Super League where he led them to National title in 2006 and won the Coach of the year award.

On returning to Scotland in 2006 he joined Haddington as Head Coach and had immediate success winning the Premier 3 title in 2007. In 2009 he returned to Bridgehaugh where he again led County back to the Premier division as champions in 2010 leaving in 2012 to take on the full time Head coach role with Scotland U18’s.  In 2018 after retiring from Scottish rugby Eddie took on the Head Coach role for one season on an interim basis as the Super6 competition was being finalised.

Alongside these roles Eddie spent thirteen years, working full time for Scottish Rugby coaching the National U18’s and U20’s in the Six Nations and Junior World Cups as well as being Head of Specialist Skills Development for Age Grade and Woman’s Rugby. He is a UKCC Level 3 Coach and Tutor. Eddie is currently Forwards Coach to the Super6 side, Director of Rugby for the Amateur club and Forwards and Defence Coach to Dollar Academy 1st XV.

Scott Lawson

Assistant Coach


Scott is currently Director of Rugby at the University of St Andrews taking up the role after an extensive club and international career.

He finished his playing career aged 36 at Newcastle Falcons, where he amassed 114 games in 5 years bringing a wealth of experience playing Premiership rugby for over a decade.

Scott started his rugby career at Biggar RFC, before earning a professional contract at Glasgow Warriors, spending four seasons playing in the Pro12 before a move to the English  Premiership, spending a season with Sale before moving to Gloucester Rugby for four years.

He is a vastly experienced former Scotland international with 47 caps, which include a try-scoring performance in his team’s opening match of the 2007 Rugby World Cup while also appearing in the 2011 tournament.

In addition to his playing commitments with Newcastle Falcons, Scott was Director of Rugby at National Two North Club Tynedale RFC, while also working as an Elite Specialist Skills Coach with Scottish Rugby. He has been involved with the Scotland U20 programme for the past 3 seasons undertaking the role of forwards coach for 2019 Six Nations and Junior World Cup.

As well as being a UKCC Level 3 qualified coach, Scott also has a BSc (Hons) in Leadership and Management from Northumbria University.

Sean Kennedy

Assistant Coach

Filippo Bertolini

S&C Coach


Filippo holds a MSc (Hons) in Strength and Conditioning from Northumbria University of Newcastle and he is currently covering the role of Head of Athletic Development here at Stirling County RFC, where he oversees the physical development of over 150 athletes ranging from Club Academy to Super 6. He played rugby himself for 15 years with a short stint in pro rugby in his country of origin, Italy. He then moved onto coaching and athletic development, working across Italy, New Zealand and UK, for organisations like Rugby Parma FC, Sunderland AFC, and Waitakere City Rugby Club. Amongst other qualifications, he holds World Rugby S&C Level 2, ISAK Anthropometrist Level 1 and Precision Nutrition Level 1 certifications


Olly Thomson

Team Manager


Olly has been the Team Manager of the Super6 squad since the inaugural season back in 2019, after graduating from a MSc in Management and Leadership in Sports Business at Heriot-Watt University. Olly was born in Edinburgh but spent most of his childhood in Kirkcudbright, on the south-west coast of Scotland, before returning to Edinburgh for university where he currently resides. Olly currently works full-time in the Rugby Development department at Scottish Rugby as a Regional Administrator for the Glasgow North region.

Dave Pugh

Team Doctor


Dave now works full time in sport having retired from GP. Having really enjoyed his first season in Super6 with County he is delighted to be back for this season. Dave has been Scotland U20s Team Doctor since 2008/9 and covers Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh as Match Day Doctor, immediate care Doctor and Hawk-eye concussion reviewer. Outside of rugby Dave is CMO for British Curling and an external contractor for Sports Scotland Institute of Sport.

Lewis Mitchell


Lewis holds a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science and an MSc in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University. He co-owns ESP Physio and co-ordinates the physiotherapy provision to the Super 6. He is an ex competitive heavy weight Strongman and Powerlifter, and has almost 20 years experience working as a physiotherapist in both the public and private sector, including posts at Scottish Rugby, Rangers and Celtic football clubs.

Andrew Lin


Andrew holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Queen Margaret University. He works full-time with ESP Physio and has been involved in physiotherapy provision for Stirling County since 2019.

He’s provided pitchside and clinic-based physiotherapy cover for the Super 6 team since Season 2. He has played Football at an amateur level, but his main athletic interests now lie mainly with Rock Climbing.

Gordon Wilkin



Gordon holds a BSc (Hons) in Strength and Conditioning and an MSc in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University. He currently works as a full time physiotherapist with ESP Physio and is part of the medical team providing clinic and pitch side physiotherapy cover for the Super 6. His own athletic background is in Muay Thai, Crossfit and Olympic weightlifting. Gordon is a well-rounded physiotherapist and performance coach with the ability to diagnose and rehabilitate injuries as well as improve and maintain performance
